Sock Wars.... if you dare!

So I said I would come back and write about Sock Wars. I can tell you right now that I'm not participating because I would be dead in a day. But I guess you have to know what it is before you can fully appreciate that statement.

Sock Wars is an all out battle to reign as number one in the sock making kingdom. The short version is that a group of knitters sign up by a given date to participate. Once everyone is signed up, the group is given a "never-been-published-before knitting pattern". Each person is also assigned a specific "target" and provided the necessary information for that target. So starting with person "A"... Person A signs up for Sock Wars. They are sent a pattern and the name of Person B including their address and sock size. Person A's goal is to complete a pair of socks for Person B and send them to Person B before Person XYZ from somewhere else sends them a finished pair. If "A" receives a pair of socks from "XYZ" before they can send off their socks to "B", then they are effectively dead. In the event that Person A should "pass away" they would be required to send their unfinished sock pair (and corresponding info) to Person XYZ who would then be required to finish the socks for Person B. All this while detailing the sock deaths via the group website.
Confusing much? I thought so. Best to go read the website itself. Go... now.... Sock Wars III kick off is May 9, 2008.
